Try It & Buy It - The Chunky Shoe

Something I learnt quite quickly working in fashion is that you can never truly say no to a trend… As much as a chunky shoe seems wrong on all fronts for me and my style, I’ve found myself drawn to them more and more lately so am doing my due diligence and researching the best options out there for us.

I’ve been a loyal “barely there” sandal girl for as long as I can remember, dating back to my European travelling days getting tan leather sandals handmade in Italy, and later in life becoming K Jacques’ fiercest and most loyal customer. After dismissing all forms of heavy shoes for a long time I’m surprised that I’m now googling “best lug-sole shoes” quite frequently. Loafers, a mainstay in winter outfits, have now taken on a new form with chunky soles and embellishments, (worn with socks and skirts if you dare), while sandals with an added mini-platform are replacing their ultra-flat counterparts. Yes, these shoes can be considered kinda ugly, but there is no disputing the coolness they bring to a simple summer look.

There are both ultra-high designer options and chainstore finds in my edit today, and I’ll admit they both offer a really nice point of difference from the usual footwear we see at this time of year. I really rate Marks & Spencer’s take on The Row’s flatform thong, while Toteme’s croc-effect chunky sandals are giving me allllllll the feels.
