Your New Season Starter Kit

If it seems like I’m talking a lot about spring and new-season wares at the moment, it’s because there’s never been a better time to plan your shopping purchases. There are fresh drops in every online and physical store imaginable right now, which brings with it a sense of excitement but also overwhelm. I know I’ve eagerly gone shopping lately with the intention to buy, only to be completely frazzled and come home empty-handed. Where do you start when you want a few wardrobe updaters that will cater to every occasion, your budget, and matches with what already exists in your closet?

The below are by all means not the only trends available at the moment, but I think they’re a good starting point if we’re talking about a refresh. Here’s what I think you should be focusing on at this stage of the season if you’re after a little pick-me-up…

  1. Creamy denim hues

Swap your blues and blacks for ecru and nougat. I get it, lighter denim can be intimidating for many reasons, but I’ve personally found sizing up and going for a somewhat slouchier look works really well here. Also don’t dismiss skirts and shorts when looking at spring denim options.

  2. Crochet

While it might not be the perfect time to waltz out in a crochet dress, you can add a starting touch by way of bags, tops and even skirts. Tactile and nostalgic, crochet can look really elegant when worn with classic items such as denim and tailoring.

  3. Lighthearted accessories

You guys, step away from your black sunnies. Why should kids have all the fun with brightly coloured accessories? The sky really is the limit right now with sunglasses, jewellery and handbags so go bright and bold or go home.

  4. Shorts

It’s been a while, old friends. Bermuda-style tailored shorts, sporty poplin and even jersey have a place in your wardrobe this season. If you’re hellbent on sticking to denim, then try for a slightly longer length with minimal distressing.

  5. Shirts, glorious shirts

It’s no secret I have a thing for shirts at the moment, and the very good news is you can find excellent options for under $100 at most stores. I vouch for the Zara ones a lot — they wash beautifully and look crisp and sharp. Just be sure to look out for 100% cotton, which means more ironing but also longevity.
