Really Nice Home Things
So yes, occasionally I cheat on fashion with homewares. It was actually my first foray into the world of magazine styling and I’ve always had a soft spot for beautiful furniture and home accessories. In fact, I am much more disciplined in my home purchases than I am with fashion — I research every possible item, compare price points and look for references constantly before I make a purchase, because I really, really have to love something before I live with it in my home. Even if it’s a can opener.
As you can probably tell from the below items, I pretty much shun the current “light wood/influencer/white wash” aesthetic. I try to steer clear of Instagram homeware trends in general to be honest, as they become so saturated that they seem a bit formulaic. Also with two small kids, I can’t imagine living in a pristine world where everything is white and beige.
These homeware pieces are vibrant, interesting, fun and represent a sense of personality, which I think is really important when choosing items for your home. As much as we all love a bit of bouclé and a scalloped edge at the moment, it’s important to keep things individual and true to yourself and lifestyle. Some of these pieces are big-ticket dreamboats, while others are accoutrements that would make wonderful gifts… especially to yourself.
