How To Elevate Your Winter Wardrobe
Truth be told, I find Winter incredibly glum, clothes included. I know many people get excited by boots and coats but I am certainly not that person — give me sunshine, sandals and a great dress any day.
This lacklustre cold-weather attitude got me thinking about how we can elevate our winter wardrobes to be a little more exciting and enticing, and here is the end result. I’ve come up with some trend-based swaps and new-season style rules which may help with the same-same feeling you have getting dressed each morning. As I find myself reaching for denim, knits and leggings each day (yawn) I am definitely going to start following my own advice too! Ready?
Cold ankles? Don’t worry, socks are here to keep you toasty no matter what your choice of footwear — boots, clogs, sneakers… These unsung heroes are a simple way to add a cool touch to your outfit, and no, they’re not just for millennials, promise.
Matching sets are a no-brainer wardrobe saviour. Satin blazers and pants, double denim, tracksuits, cardigans and knitted tanks… even if each piece isn’t exactly the same, teaming colours and/or prints is a very chic nod to uniform dressing.
Texture adds interest. Fuzzy jackets, shearling shoes, leather, netted bags — 3D dressing has never been so fun (and warm!).
Blue is the new Bottega-green. Just pick your shade…
Man-style everything. This includes oversized shirts and coats, trousers, vests and loafers. My tip would be don’t go too exaggerated with the oversized silhouette — there’s a fine line between cool and just too big.
Playful accessories in the form of coloured jewellery, bright sunglasses and chunky sneakers are ensuring you have the last laugh without taking winter dressing too seriously.
Long skirts with long boots is a great alternative to jeans and pants and still keeps you weather-appropriate. Again, this trend works well if you keep things in a similar shade of colour.
Use belts! There’s never been a better time to create shape with your waist thanks to belts — I’m talking coat-ties, belts worn with denim or a chic waisted belt over a dress or skirt.
