How To Dress For A Day Event

Firstly, let me tell you that this edit took twice as long as usual, and that is saying a lot as they usually take me a lonnngg time! It seems even the most seasoned shopper (err, that would be me) is no stranger to the absolute mind fu*k that is dressing for a day event! Deciphering dress codes can be tricky at the best of times, but having an event during the day, which requires function as well as style, is really no easy task to master.

I strangely have a busy calendar in the next few weeks which sees me needing to dress up when I would usually dress down, and it’s been quite the ride trying to dress the part without overspending and losing my mind. Sure, long lunches sound appealing but when you throw in two kids and the fact that restrictive waistbands and high heels aren’t really working for you anymore, figuring out what to wear is not as simple as it sounds, particularly when you want to avoid anything too corporate looking (midi skirt + pumps + jacket = office attire you want to avoid).

What I do know for sure? Simple is always best, and opting for modern silhouettes in lovely fabrics will always get you out of a bind. Throw in some mid-height heels or chic flats, statement jewellery and a ladylike handbag, and you’re good to go. If prints are more your thing (I tend to gravitate towards prints when the weather heats up), keep accessories (and hairstyles) simple. You’re basically playing opposites with clothes and accessories — when one is big or loud, go small and soft with the other.

Ok, I may need a day nap now. Happy shopping!
