How To Wear Summer Denim
Not going to lie, this edit was a little out of my comfort zone. I’m strangely not a huge denim person, which is odd as I own quite a lot of it and rely on the basics for outfits often! I think it has something to do with my height…
I’m pretty short, and I always think most denim pieces look better on taller people. I’m also all about comfort and would generally lean towards something soft over rigid denim. Nevertheless, denim is such a huge part of everyone’s wardrobe and I get why I’m constantly asked about jeans, jackets and shorts. They’re all wardrobe staples and definitely have a place in everyone’s styling arsenal.
So, here are my thoughts on wearing denim in summer!
If it’s cool enough for jeans, go for an ankle-length so you can wear your favourite slides or sandals. I actually much prefer these style of shoes worn with jeans than boots, so if the weather allows, go for it! It’s all about the peek of skin for me…
White denim isn’t the easiest to wear, but there are ways. I’d firstly look for off-white, as the creamy hue is less stark and easier to match with. I’d also avoid anything too fitted — wide-leg, slouchy or oversized work well with all lighter denim.
If you can’t let go of cut-offs, try a higher-waist silhouette with a slightly flared bottom. Much more flattering and user-friendly than the really short and casual styles of old.
A denim shacket is a great in-between-seasons staple, and I love the short-sleeve versions on offer at the moment. Wear them in place of a top with matching bottoms if you dare.
Dark denim is back! Super clean and suddenly very cool, invest now and thank yourself in winter.
With denim skirts, anything goes. I’m going to say it’s all about your comfort levels here — go mini, midi or maxi depending on what fits best. They all have a place and can all look great when worn with basic tops and singlets.
