Cool Shirts & Pretty Blouses

It amazes me that not so long ago I shunned the idea of shirts, or anything tailored if I’m honest. Being quite petite, I always thought “suiting” style clothing made me look like I was in fancy dress so I avoided anything with structure. How times have changed!

Thanks to a couple of bouts of breastfeeding and a few trends in-between, I have embraced button-down shirts with open arms and am now on a constant hunt to find the perfect one — not too big, not too small, definitely cotton poplin, and with a small but mighty point of difference — sharp collar, large cuffs, slight puff sleeve — I’ll take anything as long as it sits and wears well. I’ve got a few winners in my wardrobe from high to low brands such as Bassike and H&M, but could always do with a new version to freshen up a pair of jeans or worn loosely over a tank in summer.

Blouses are more my jam and always have been. I’ve always veered towards romantic silhouettes and a slight boho aesthetic when it comes to breezy tops, and I think it has a lot to do with Isabel Marant and her seasonal, effortless iterations. You can always tell an Issy-Marant blouse by the way they fit just so, and I’ll always happily invest when on sale.

Now that we are hopefully on the tail-end of winter, I thought we could all do with a little blouse / shirt shopping to get excited for the season ahead. With the right outerwear, these beauties can work all-year round with jeans, or in the warmer months with tailored shorts and skirts.
