My Winter Essentials List
My disdain for winter is pretty well known by now. I can’t stand it, to be honest. How everyone wouldn’t prefer to be in sandals and a dress over jeans and a knit is beyond me, but I digress…
When I do prep for my winter wardrobe, I stick to a pretty tried and tested formula that mainly consists of basics and exciting accessories. I have some staples I buy from the likes of Uniqlo every season, and I keep things pretty neutral colourwise so I don’t have to think too much. This season I’ve bought some pieces that I thought were worth sharing as they’ve definitely helped me get out of a seasonal sartorial slump! Here’s my list so far…
Denim, obviously. I can’t do the baggy trend but a high-waisted, straight-leg style seems neat, classic and fresh.
Blazers in everything but black. I like the idea of a textured check as well as creamy beige.
Maxi skirts. Even for a shortie like me, these are a game-changer — I’m wearing a black woollen style at night and a few denim options during the day. Surprisingly toasty!
A mix of chunky knits and sleek knits — you’re going to need both for a variety of tucked-in, half-tucked or oversized styling options. I like the Extra Fine Knit Merino styles at Uniqlo for evening.
Cashmere sweats. Need I say more? Very luxurious and street-ready when worn with socks and Birkenstock Bostons.
Plain white long-sleeve tops for layering. I have a mix of Uniqlo Heat-Tech and other cotton varieties to wear under knits or on their own under blazers and cardigans. You’ll need a few…
Something fleecy. I swear by hitting up the men’s section at Uniqlo for this, I wear this pullover almost every weekend.
Fun footwear and accessories. When you’re keeping your clothes kinda serious, why not have fun with everything else? I like a metallic heel and am loyal to gold hoops styled with knitwear.
Let’s go, dolls.
