Going Out? Here’s What To Wear
Buckle up, this one’s a doozy. I’ve made a comprehensive edit of going-out pieces that will work for various functions — dinners, parties, work — and I’m hoping there’s a little something in here for you that you may have never thought to click on before.
There’s a lot on offer at the moment that tick a lot of boxes for after-hours events, but I’ll also admit that a big chunk of it is tailored to a 90s style of dressing I’m not sure is for everyone. Truthfully, it was very hard to find a dress that didn’t have a cut-out or two involved! And while I’m all for showing skin, I just don’t know if a slashed waist needs to appear on everything.
My vibe when shopping for going-out clothes is always at two ends of the spectrum — I love having fun with evening-wear and don’t mind a feather or sequin here and there, or I go totally classic and fuss-free. There doesn’t seem to be a happy medium and that works for me! Some of my favourite dresses I’ve worn are either the simplest of silhouettes — an Acne backless halter dress I’ve worn for years and through two pregnancies and beyond, and a beautiful silk printed Bernadette dress I splurged on for my 40th birthday which I will likely never wear again. They couldn’t be more opposite but they’re both totally me.
The UK chain stores do going-out wear really, really well — brands such as Warehouse, Whistles and Topshop seem to cater for party season better than anyone else, while locally you can’t go past The Iconic for an unbeatable selection of brands and price points. I’ve personally got my eyes on that pink lace Oroton tunic, and the black and white gingham dress by Maggie Marilyn. Yep, totally opposite!
I’ve done the scouring, now you do the shopping. Enjoy!
