Christmas Gift Guide — The Bumper Kids Edit

I’ve tried to cover a wide range of ages with this edit, but obviously I have a 6 and 8 year old on my mind as these are the ages of my own kids! Tweens is a different beast and one I will tackle soon — stay tuned!

Shopping for kids isn’t always a walk in the park, and aside from a list for Santa, it’s hard to tell what will stick and what will be a passing fad when it comes to toys. As I am constantly trying to minimise the amount of “stuff” we have when it comes to kids’ paraphernalia, I tend to make the Santa sack filled with a good dose of practical items as well as the occasional plastic and stuffed toy. For instance, we always includes new pyjamas, swimwear, books and accessories (bags, hats, wallets, etc), as well as craft supplies and any drink bottles and lunchboxes they may need for the new year ahead. These are great stocking fillers that are practical as well as fun. A sporting or outdoor toy is always a good option too — handballs and basketballs are the current craze in our house — and swimming inflatables are a surefire crowd-pleaser.

Some things I’ve bought Santa has bought for my own kids recently include:

  • Crocs with Jibbitz — finally they’re on trend, my son has been wearing them for years and looking like a complete dag!

  • LED drawing pads — trust me when I say these are a game changer, perfect to bring to restaurants or for travel.

  • Hooded towels — I prefer the ones with zips and use these every single year for swim lessons and pool trips.

  • Reusable water bombs — genius!

  • Backpacks — always backpacks, I find they need various sizes for different activities, e.g. playdates, school camps, sports, etc.

  • Derwent pencils — when you actually sharpen a proper quality pencil you will never go back to the cheap ones! My daughter has had hers for years and I remember having the same as a child.

  • Seashell/beach collecting bags — what an adorable idea, if your kids like collecting random objects whilst out and about these little bags are super handy.

Ok, here’s my Squishmallow-free gift guide (how many do they really need!) for the little people in your life. Enjoy!
