10 Really Great Basics To Own
It’s nice to focus on the hardest working items in your wardrobe from time to time. The pieces that you probably own a variety of and turn to again and again to work back with more seasonal items. The reliable pair of jeans, the goes-with-anything skirt, the shirt that looks good no matter what…
Here are some of my favourites at the moment (from L to R):
Clean denim in a flatteringly simple shape.
A really great sneaker in all-white. These will be excellent come Spring time to wear with coloured shorts and shirts. I actually love the freshness of milky white shoes when worn with colour as well as neutrals.
I’ve been featuring a version of this bag for over a year now. It’s so lovely, so universal and so handy. Love this colour and shape.
This jacket isn’t a blazer and nor is it a coat. It’s some sort of hybrid that ticks all the right boxes for evening warmth. Hard to find affordable tweed that isn’t ruined by gold hardware but this is classic and simple.
Pleated skirts can either be so right or so wrong. I do think you have to spend a bit more on them to get a nice drape, and this one looks comfy as well.
An affordable mini bag that looks luxe. Wear with the crossbody strap or without.
My love of great long-sleeve tops knows no bounds. Cos makes really good ones to wear on their own or layer.
They’re not The Row and thank God for that. I would never spend big bucks on something like a mesh flat, but I do enjoy a good flat and a good nod to a trend without being a total victim.
How good is this shirt? The tie-belt makes it so interesting and I can really see this worn at night with good pants, a heel and some sort of opposing piece of jewellery, like a tennis necklace.
These pants are elasticised with a sporty trim on the side — two details that make them more casual than serious. I’d wear with a coloured turtleneck and sneakers.
