Your Spring Mood Board

Yes, she’s a doozy. There is nothing like the start of a new season to really ignite your shopping fire, and to say I am on a mission is to put things mildly. I did not actually buy much this past winter, for a few different reasons but mainly because it was a very same-same, low-key kinda season for me, but I plan to make up for that this spring.

I’ve been umming and ahhhing about whether to focus on seasonal trends, or whether to banish the T-word in its entirety for this website, because what do trends matter anyway? I like dressing modern, I really like fashion, but that doesn’t always mean I want to be “on-trend”. In fact, I’ve found myself actively avoiding trends the older I get, so perhaps this is an age thing…

What I think is more useful right now is to give you some options of what to buy for the new season, without taking away from the fact that you can actually buy and wear what you want and still look very cool, very modern, and very inspirational. You do you! With that in mind, here are my spring tips on how to be the best dressed version of you in the warmer months, without sacrificing true personal style…

  • Replace black with navy. A simple style-hack that instantly freshens things up for the warmer weather. Too much navy and white can look nautical in a not-so-cute way so think about teaming it with chambray, pale blue or cream instead.

  • When it comes to sandals, both chunky and barely-there styles are relevant and available right now. I think both have their place and generally work best with opposites, i.e. a fuller skirt would look good with a slimmer shoe, while a streamlined silhouette could benefit from a bulkier shoe.

  • Blue is a great stand-alone or accent colour — I’m talking powder blue, navy blue, pale blue and cobalt blue.

  • Don’t be afraid of white shoes! Toteme’s mini-heel sandals are a dream and an off-white flat sandal is super versatile and just as useful as tan.

  • Lightweight pants are a great trans-seasonal piece to own. Choose from comfy drawstring styles or more hard-wearing chinos.

  • Shorts are back but not as you know it. Choose form pyjama-style boxers or above-the-knee Bermudas. Cotton and linen is definitely replacing denim on the shorts-front this season.

  • Prints are still around and will make a bigger entrance for summer. I love a good print and will be wearing some form of stripe, paisley or floral when it comes to long-sleeve dresses and blouses.

Alright you guys, may the shopping force be with you!
