Your Autumn Shopping Starter Kit

If you’re a longtime reader of this website, you’ll know that dressing for cold weather is not my jam. Although I can appreciate cosy knits and long boots, I will always prefer to be sweltering in a sundress somewhere… which is why my excitement for the new season ahead is so puzzling right now.

For the first time in a long time, I’m genuinely excited to dress for Autumn/Winter. Thanks to the resurgence of 00’s trends, we have an upcoming season filled with clothes and accessories that translate so well for women like us — busy mums who want to be comfortable but still look good. Suddenly I’m all about a pair of jeans, because this time around they’re slouchy and cool, not rigid and restrictive. I love the idea of cardigans — either buttoned up as a knit, or open with a tee, because they allow for trans-seasonal layering. And I even love the tomato-red comeback (despite hating red all my life), because this season’s specific shade of red goes so well with all the denim, taupe, blue and black we’ll be wearing.

Without willing the sunshine to leave us (please don’t!) too soon, now is a great time to start to get a feel for what you might want to be wearing when the weather turns. Most things on offer are so wearable and lovely — ladylike flats, denim in every form, suiting separates, suede accessories — that it’s just smart shopping to snap up the pieces that you love now before they sell out.

A prepared wardrobe is a better wardrobe! On that note…
