What To Wear To…

This edit is all about the power of styling, because putting together outfits can be a bit of a nightmare if you don’t know the basics of what makes an outfit just work. Proportions play a big part — as I’ve said before, mixing big and small (oversized with fitted, essentially), but so to do opposites, which can often require a bit more confidence and know-how.

What I mean by opposites is combining styles to achieve a cohesive and well-rounded look. For example, if you’re wearing a trend-based item, e.g. a red shoe, it would be best to stick to a classic palette elsewhere so you don’t scream fashion victim. Same goes with hemlines and sleeve lengths — I always find mixing low with high (short skirt + long sleeve top or jacket) balances everything out and simply looks better than a head to toe look of the same lengths and shapes. This is where layering comes into play, because jackets and shirts can be really helpful to tie a look together and layer over staples such as tanks and tees.

I hope the above outfit examples get you out of any fashion ruts you may be feeling each day when getting dressed. I know from my own experience it’s so easy to fall into a same-same trap of activewear and denim being on steady rotation. This is amplified if you happen to work from home, but truly, getting dressed and using existing and new pieces in your wardrobe in a fresh way is such an instant mood lift. Getting out of activewear is my ultimate life-hack for busy mums needing a confidence boost. Try it and see.
