What To Wear On The Weekend (When You Don’t Want To Wear Activewear)

Let me start by saying what a total spin out it is to re-introduce Adidas Taekwando Shoes back into the world! The memories I have wearing these shoes as a junior stylist over twenty years ago, wanting every variation possible thanks to my love for Jamiroquai and all things British street-style. Ah, fashion memories.

Yes, those funny shoes are back in fashion, as are Puma Speedcats and Arizonas. Team them with this season’s barn jacket and baggy jean obsession and you’ll have the perfect nod to 90s utility style.

I don’t always like to take trends too literally, so for me, the return of these nostalgic fashion items makes more sense when teamed with something modern or classic. For example, I probably would avoid a trend-based sneaker with baggy denim, and instead team them with a chic cotton skirt and oversized tote. Same goes for the barn jacket — it makes more sense to me to throw it over something completely unexpected, like a lace-trimmed skirt, than a pair of chinos. Opposites attract, etc, etc.

As I was putting together this edit, I realised that these are exactly the type of pieces you want on hand for a weekend doing nothing or everything. Strong accessories. Mix and match separates. Fresh basics. I’m personally getting a little tired of feeling like the odd one out when I don’t wear activewear on a weekend, so I’m making it really simple for everyone to get out of their exercise gear and into some really nice clothes when Saturday rolls around. Are you with me?
