10 Winter Essentials I’m Adding To Cart
When it comes to shopping for a new season, I always start with the basics. The pieces I’ve selected today include wardrobe essentials that I know will serve me well for the next few months, no matter the occasion. From classic outerwear to footwear and accessories that will tie every look together, today I’m taking you through my Notes app and divulging what’s on my hit list for winter.
A Black Blazer
Specifically I’d like a blazer that isn’t too oversized, nor too contoured — something in the middle that can work as an evening throw-on to keep the chill at bay.
2. Cashmere Knits
It’s a big fashion editor cliché to recommend a cashmere knit when the weather cools, but honestly, there’s nothing more lovely to wear when it’s cold. Cos are doing some great shapes this season but they sell out super quickly. If you are updating your Uniqlo ones, I recommend sizing up, or checking out the men’s sizing, and wearing with a white tee underneath.
3. A Barn-Style Jacket
I wouldn’t ordinarily jump on this trend, but I do think a barn-style jacket is a great trans-seasonal cover up, as well as a handy day option when you don’t want the weight of a coat. They look good with more casual bottoms (leggings, drawstring pants), too.
4. All-Rounder Sneaker
When I say all-rounder, I mean a sneaker that can be worn with jeans, activewear, skirts and all of the above. A sneaker that looks cool without being too sporty, or chunky, or Gen Alpha, if you know what I mean?
5. Relaxed Jeans
I guess these can also be classified as straight leg denim? Basically anything that isn’t too exaggerated in width or length.
6. A Rugby Top
Rugby tops are a modern way to wear stripes, and I love the way they look when worn with jeans or more casual bottoms.
7. Mini Heel Pump
The Clara pump by Aeyde is what made me fall head over (low) heels for this look. I absolutely love the silhouette of this pump — it’s sexy and sophisticated and weather-appropriate for the cooler months, and for some reason the low heel looks unexpectedly excellent with jeans and pants. There’s something edgy and slightly cooler about a low heel this season, and I am here for it.
8. A Shoulder Bag
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, thank goodness the roomy shoulder bag is having a moment, because we can finally fit all our essentials inside without compromising on style. In my opinion, the simpler in shape and design, the better.
9. A Belt
A belt is an easy way to elevate a simple denim + knit outfit this season. I personally love a classic black and gold buckle style, but there is something appealing about a studded version or more ornate buckle options.
10. Socks-To-Be-Seen
To be completely transparent, I struggle slightly with this one as I do think you have to be long and lean for this look to be flattering! However, I acknowledge that it does seem less modern to wear no-show socks with both leggings and denim right now. I swear by the Lurex packs from Uniqlo — they are subtly glittery and feel really nice on.
