Casual Summer Day Dressing
This edit was born out of necessity—specifically, the many meltdowns I had every morning when I didn’t have to be anywhere or do anything particularly exciting. Ladies, it’s taken me years to come to the realisation that I can’t do casual dressing…
Activewear when I’m actually exercising? Easy. Smart casual outfits for dinners and events? My specialty. Black tie or formal wear? I live for it. But give me a day where I’m working from home, on school pick-up duty, or simply running errands (literally every day of my life), and I suddenly lose my mind.
The problem is, I don’t really relate to any specific casual aesthetic. I’m no good in denim cut-offs, I despise band tees or anything remotely vintage, and I feel ridiculous in too many prints. I’m never one to encourage “saving” good outfits, but I’ve lately found myself feeling a bit silly in a nice dress or expensive sandals when I’m just watching a kids’ basketball game from the sidelines. There’s a time and place for every outfit, and it seems I need more options that reflect the reality of my day-to-day life.
So, where do I start? In an ideal world, I’d head to Matteau and Bassike and be done with it, but, as a shock to no one, those brands are pretty expensive. While I’m happy to sprinkle in a bit of designer with my everyday basics, I’d love to find more approachable options that fit my style of high/low dressing. Hopefully, this edit will solve my problem—and maybe yours too?
