Spring Basics You Need Right Now
How many basics are too many? Truthfully, I don’t know. What I do know, is that you can’t have a high-functioning wardrobe without enough basics to get you by — whether they be the hero piece of your outfit or a supporting guest role.
You’re going to need a variety of boring but functional basics for spring/summer, and if you already own them, you probably need to update them. These guys don’t last forever no matter how much you spend on them. Sunscreen stains, sweat, holes, shrinkage, stretching… it’s all inevitable.
I wrote about my favourite T-shirts in a newsletter recently (have you subscribed yet?) and I always ensure I buy a few newbies each season to keep things fresh. While I’ll always favour a classic-cut, plain cotton tee, I also keep oversized and slim-fit versions on standby too if the outfit calls for it. For example, layering a tank under a shirt requires something fitted, while doing a half or full-tuck with a T-shirt requires some extra length. I love a muscle tank as well as more fitted ribbed singlets and feel I need both depending on my bottoms of choice.
As you can see, this isn’t just about T-shirts, but the entire spectrum of utility-style basics you will feel better for owning when you’re having a wardrobe meltdown. When an outfit isn’t working for me, I without a doubt end up reaching for something fool-proof and simplistic such as a shirt dress, cotton skirt and tank or reliable stripes. You really need these guys as they’ll constantly save you when in a styling rut.
Shop my bumper edit of basics now and don’t delay in adding to cart — you’ll find these styles always sell out at the beginning of a season with good reason.
