Casual, Sporty, Cool

When I don’t know what to wear, am laying low doing not much, and can’t be bothered wasting a good outfit on a lazy day, I turn to athleisure wear. Not to be confused with actual athletic wear, these clothes blend comfort with style without looking like you just came out of a pilates class…

It’s sporty, it’s casual, it’s cool, but there is an art to this lo-fi look. Firstly, it’s best to keep logos to a minimum. There’s nothing worse than looking like an “all the gear, no idea” type of non-sports person, you know? I’d rather wear plain Uniqlo tees than anything heavily branded, personally. Secondly, you definitely don’t wear actual sports shoes with these type of clothes… leave the “trainers” in your wardrobe and instead, opt for a casual sneaker that packs an unexpected style punch. This season, it’s all about the minimalist, non-branded sneaker — think Dries Van Noten, Alohas TB. 490’s, Toteme, Chloe, Isabel Marant… I could go on. They’re slightly orthopaedic looking but somehow very cool. On the flipside, usual suspects Adidas three-stripes, Salomons, Asics, New Balance and Puma Speedcats are still working their magic.

In terms of clothing, opt for comfort without compromising on style. Think easy-fit T-shirts, elasticised shorts, non-restrictive lycra and roomy pants. A great weekend look when you’re doing a bunch of everything with a whole lot of nothing.

On that note…
