Some Very Cool Things To Wear Now

As I enter another “what the hell do I wear” dilemma at the icy side of winter, my mind is already leading me to outfits I’ll be sporting trans-seasonally which don’t require so many layers. It’s always at this time of July where I kind of give up and give in to my uniform of jeans + Uniqlo knit, but I really am bored of that person.

Over the weekend I wore a fun outfit which I posted on my LTK and got a lot of DMs about it, which made me think you are all feeling the same way — in the mood for some excitement and a point of difference in your wardrobe. It got me thinking about trends and influencer style and how it takes a LOT of shopping research, courage, know-how and confidence to think outside the box when it comes to personal style. I do love and follow trends, but I don’t want to look like a cookie-cutter version of everyone else, especially women decades younger than me.

So, instead of being kind of bummed and stressed about the lack of variety but overwhelming influx of “editors” across social media, it’s given me a gentle nudge to keep doing what I’m doing and block out the outside noise that isn’t relevant. There are a lot of fashion identities online, many of them doing the exact same thing I am, but my main point of difference, as I’m sure you’re all aware by now, is that I have a 20 + year fashion background styling and editing, I’m a 43 year old mother of two, and I don’t just push shopping picks for the sake of it. If you see something on my website or on social media, it means I rate it, I love it and I recommend it, for real. I can’t say it’s the most lucrative way to make a living (🥴), but at least I’m being authentic, and hopefully, helpful.

On that note, here are a lot of cool things I’m loving right now which you might find cool, too.

  • Maxi skirts and dresses work just as well as denim or trousers for winter. I love the idea of this poplin skirt with a slouchy camel or navy knit and sneakers.

  • These moccasins are so wearable and less harsh in this burgundy hue than black. Would love these with dark denim and crew socks.

  • A subtle logo knit in a great shape, I’m also a huge fan of the half-cotton, half-wool composition, such a great mix for layering and keeping warm but not overheating!

  • Maybe I’m having a sort of mid-life crisis, but I’ve been searching for sexier style tops to wear with jeans in the evening during the colder months. I am obsessed with this open-back style from Cos — so elegant and the khaki colour is great. I’m also weirdly drawn to this bodysuit by H&M, the bead-detail makes it look expensive and I can see this working well under a sleek black blazer.
