Party Outfits (And How To Wear Them)
Did you think I turned into Mrs. Claus and escaped to the North Pole? I may as well have. I’ve been loving all the Gift Guides lately, but I’m so happy to finally bring you the first edit for festive-season dressing — starting with party outfits!
I made a point to include as many separates as possible, knowing not everyone gravitates toward dresses. This really is the best time to shop for evening wear — the options are endless. From strappy satin tops and bandeaus to silky or sequin pants, dressy shorts, mini skirts, and embellishments galore, there’s something for everyone. If you’ve got an after-5 event coming up, there’s undoubtedly a perfect piece waiting for you.
Here are a few tips for shopping and styling your next event look:
Red is festive, sexy and everywhere right now, but it is also a notoriously difficult colour to style into an outfit. If you're going for red (and there are so many great options out there), keep your accessories simple. Match your shoes to the exact shade of red, or go for classic black. Skip metallics — they tend to lean too "Dancing With the Stars" rather than modern.
Sequins can be cool, but it's all about balance. They can easily look over-the-top if you pair them with more glitter or too much dressiness. Instead, try mixing sequins with more casual pieces — think a sequin skirt or pants with a plain tank or tee, or a sparkly top paired with denim. Keep accessories minimal to let the sequins do the talking.
All-black is always chic, but if you want to add interest, try a satin bow in your hair, or reintroduce silver to your life. Subtle touches make all the difference when you’re keeping your outfit sleek and simple.
You can absolutely wear flats with a dressy outfit, think embellished flats, metallic sandals, mesh ballerinas or a sparkly Mary Jane.
Experimenting with accessories is one of the best parts of party season. It's the perfect time to swap out your usual gold hoops for something more sculptural or ornate. Try a satin or sparkly handbag instead of leather, or add an unexpected hair accessory for an instant style upgrade.
It’s a great time to dress up! Let’s go.
