My Version Of A Capsule Wardrobe
Well, I must say you’ve really put me to work with this one! It’s no secret that I’m not the “capsule wardrobe’s” biggest fan, but time and time again I get asked to put together an edit based around the premise of a timeless, uniform-style wardrobe, so here I am delivering!
It’s not that I dislike these clothes or am not into the classics, I very much am, but I do find over time, the capsule wardrobe argument has become a kind of lazy way to obtain personal style. I don’t want to wear what everyone else is wearing all the time, I don’t want to wear stripes and beige and denim every day, and I certainly don’t want to rotate looks that are all same-same from my wardrobe. You guys, we are better than that!
I’m all about the mix — high / low dressing, trends mixed with classics, minimal vs prints — and that’s what I think makes personal style personal. To follow such a strict, methodical way of dressing doesn’t appeal to me in the slightest. BUT, and there’s always a but, I totally get it. Having a few pieces in your wardrobe that you know you can easily mix and match and wear with anything, at any time, is smart shopping. Classics are classics for a reason! So in the spirit of capsule wardrobes and making life easier for all of us, I have selected some timeless separates that will see you through the seasons with ease and style.
What I haven’t done, and hopefully you will appreciate, is fill this edit with costly garments by high end designers who of course, do this style of dressing so well, but have the price tag to show for it. I’ve tried doing a very realistic mix of separates that are worth splurging on with pieces that are affordable to upgrade every now and again, because as much as this is all about “forever” pieces, I don’t think having a capsule wardrobe means the end of shopping! Let’s not lose our heads!
So, grab your beverage of choice (tea, coffee, wine, depending on when you’re reading this), and get acquainted with a style of wardrobe that will undoubtedly make life easier. Ready, set…
