Your Guide To This Season’s Best Swimsuits & Beach Accessories

I’m pretty basic when it comes to my beach style and accessories. I favour a simple swimsuit cut (usually high waisted briefs and some form of bandeau or tri-top, because #noboobs) in a black or neutral colour way, a basket bag or canvas tote to house all the stuff, and a thin cotton shirt as a cover up. This has been my go-to look for years and I don’t see that changing anytime soon. Although…

This year I’ve become a little obsessive about sun protection, possibly 43 years too late, but anyway. I now have a sunscreen “wardrobe” filled with different types of protection for different situations (tinted, mineral, spray, etc.), and I need a hat to not only look good, but protect every inch of my face and neck. It’s also the first year that I’ve ever thought to wear a rash vest of any kind, which I’m pretty embarrassed to admit. I was introduced to The Acqua Brand recently and chose their relaxed sleeveless rashguard with high waisted briefs to wear this summer, and I’m surprised at how much I love the look of it on as well as the added sun protection. If, like me, you aren’t usually a rash vest type of person, I urge you to give this a go — the relaxed fit is almost like a tank top but somehow still really feminine and chic.

I’m also a really big fan of Bondi Born’s really lovely and minimal swimsuits, Hunza G’s reliably comfortable range of one pieces and bikinis, and for something a little more trend-based and fun, Fella and Sir’s range of swimsuits with an excellent selection of balconette and bandeau tops.

On the footwear front, it really is all about plastic shoes — whether you opt for sleek and simple Havaianas, classic EVA Birkenstocks, or a more affordable version of The Row’s infamous jelly shoes (I don’t usually post Amazon dupes, but honestly, save your pennies and buy something a bit more long-lasting).

The weather (in Sydney at least ) might not be playing ball right now, but you know the sunshine is coming, so best get prepared while we wait…
