How To Wear White Jeans
Of course, by white, I mean everything that falls between stark white, ecru, eggshell, milky, cream, off-white… You get my drift.
If you’re not seeing white jeans everywhere right now, you will be soon. A fantastic spring denim option, these guys are doing the heavy lifting to add a sense of freshness to your outfits. Styles of old have given white denim a pretty bad rap (skinny silhouettes with stilettos — that’s a no), but I’m here to say you can wear lighter denim no matter your age, shape or budget. Here’s how:
Don’t be afraid to size up for the right effect. Whether you’re opting for a straight-leg or bootcut style, a slight slouch is more flattering than shapes sitting closer to the body.
Ankle-length styles work best for shorter gals (that’s me!) and also are a great way of showing off a gorgeous sandal or sneaker.
Rigid denim works best with white. You don’t want to notice any stretch as the fit won’t be as flattering. Cargo-style and high-waisted pant shapes are a great way to get the look and appear slightly more formal.
I prefer softer tones worn back with white bottoms — creams, greys, blues, pinks, khaki, chocolate. I don’t recommend wearing a black top nor do I think brights work particularly well. Tonal is best here.
Break up a white top and bottom with a belt or some metallic accessories.
Don’t think you can wear white denim at night? You can! I love the idea of a slouchy knit, half-tucked, with a beautiful kitten heel and statement jewels.
If you’ve been afraid of white denim for a while, I get it, it can be scary, but as long as you’re getting the shape right, and have some decent T-shirts, button-down shirts and shoes to style back with them, you don’t have to be afraid of a thing, I promise. (Ok, maybe you do have to worry about keeping them clean, but this is where baby wipes in your handbag come in handy!)
