Comfy, Elastic-Waist Pants

It’s hard to know how to describe these specific style of pants that are doing the rounds this season. Elastic-waist pants, relaxed trousers or comfy pants seem to sum them up, but it’s important to recognise these aren’t exactly tracksuit pants, nor are they lightweight linen pants either…

Made popular by side-stripes similar to Adidas 3-stripe pants, these guys are slightly sporty but can also be dressed up with the right footwear and accessories. I love these as an alternative to denim and leggings — an excellent option if you’re a mum running from sports fields to birthday parties on any given weekend.

On that note, I’ve been reading a lot about “mum-style” recently and I have to say, as a mum of two children who has worked as a stylist, fashion writer and shopping editor, I can assure you mum-style is real and worthy of its own genre. I started this website because I know mums can struggle to get dressed at any given stage of motherhood — for me it happened immediately postpartum. I relied on comfort dressing as a form of necessity (c-section scars and breastfeeding do not make for easy dressing), but that doesn’t mean I didn’t care or wanted to suddenly dress badly. It’s very simply a different style of dressing for a different time of life. As my children have grown, I’ve continually had to adapt and change the way I dress, and it would be remiss of me to suggest that being a mother had nothing to do with that. There is nothing negative about using the term “mum-style” at all, and as I’ve said before, the most stylish women I’ve ever seen are mums at the school gate.

Please don’t be put off by the term or think an item of clothing is less-than because they’d specifically suit a mum. I mean it as the highest form of compliment because it means you can feel good and look good while getting shit done.

Which brings me to my edit of very cool, very comfy pants…
