Autumn Dresses

A long-sleeve mini, midi or maxi dress is my favourite thing to wear when we’re in-between seasons. I love the ease and elegance that this sort of silhouette brings to any occasion, but truth be told I did have some reservation putting together this edit today. As I’ve mentioned a few times before recently, this season is all about separates — tops, skirts, pants, jeans and coats aplenty. Could I really be a good fashion editor and go against the grain of a very obvious push towards everything other than a dress at the moment? Well, yes. As a 40+ mum of two, my wardrobe is, and should be, more about what suits me and my lifestyle rather than what a catwalk dictates, so when I feel like wearing a dress, I do. And that time is now, you guys!

I’m surely not the only one who loves the “throw-on” factor that a good dress provides. They really are a saviour on a busy morning when thinking of an entire outfit is simply too hard and time consuming. For Autumn/Winter, I’ll be adding a sneaker, knee-high boot or fancy flat (Mary-Janes, ballet, loafer) to an array of dress styles including shirt dresses, sweater-style, denim and floaty-feminine, and when the weather gets even more chilly, I’ll simply throw a trench on top. If you thought the cooler weather meant the end of dress-wearing for a while, think again. Here are some favourites to buy and wear right now.
